چکیده

For interpreting the process of visually induced motion sickness, we propose a time-varying factors model that consists of trigger and accumulation factors with different time-scales. As validation experiments, fifteen subjects viewed a 2-min-long first-person-view video image session five times (total 10-min) continuously. Measured biosignals were the RR interval, respiration, and blood pressure time-series to estimate the low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) power components. Then we determined the trigger points and the behavior of LF/HF. The results showed that time-distribution of trigger points showed the peak in the session and in trun the LF/HF, as the accumulation effect, increased in relation to the portions where the trigger points concentrated.

Frequency Characteristics of Visually Induced Motion Sickness

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to explore the frequency response of visually induced motion sickness (VIMS) for oscillating linear motion in the fore-and-aft axis. BACKGROUND Simulators, virtual environments, and commercially available video games that create an illusion of self-motion are often reported to induce the symptoms seen in response to true motion. Often this human response ca...

A pilot study of rizatriptan and visually-induced motion sickness in migraineurs

BACKGROUND Limited evidence suggests that rizatriptan given before vestibular stimulation reduces motion sickness in persons with migraine-related dizziness. The present study was designed to test whether rizatriptan is also effective in protecting against visually-induced motion sickness and to test whether rizatriptan blocks the augmentation of motion sickness by head pain. MATERIAL AND MET...

Special Section: the First International Symposium on Visually Induced Motion Sickness, Fatigue, and Photosensitive Epileptic Seizures (vims2007)

While humans have experienced motion sickness symptoms in response to inertial motion from early history through the present day, motion sickness symptoms also occur from exposure to some types of visual displays. Even in the absence of physical motion, symptoms may result from visually perceived motion, which are often classified as effects of visually induced motion sickness (VIMS). This pape...

Quantifying Visually Induced Motion Sickness (VIMS) During Stereoscopic 3D Viewing Using Temporal VIMS Rating

Visually induced motion sickness (VIMS) is evoked by conflicting motion sensory signals within the brain. Use of the simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ) or postural stability measures to quantify one’s VIMS experience only measures the changes between preand post-experiment. The motion sickness susceptibility questionnaire (MSSQ) is widely used to measure individual’s sensitivity to motion s...

Vection and visually induced motion sickness: how are they related?

The occurrence of visually induced motion sickness has been frequently linked to the sensation of illusory self-motion (vection), however, the precise nature of this relationship is still not fully understood. To date, it is still a matter of debate as to whether vection is a necessary prerequisite for visually induced motion sickness (VIMS). That is, can there be VIMS without any sensation of ...
